2024 Volvo XC60: Preview, Recharge, Release Date, Redesign, Price

The Swedish carmaker already announced a successor for the current-generation XC60 and from what we can see, it will be offered both with internal combustion engines and an all-electric setup. However, that model won’t arrive all that soon. The latest reports suggest that the sales won’t start before 2025, which clearly indicates that the 2024 Volvo XC60 will come with a familiar design and features. Still, we are not sure if this means the lack of any updates.

The next year’s model might come with some novelties, even though it won’t receive a full redesign. On the other hand, we could see a few minor updates, starting from the additions to the list of standard equipment. Moreover, there is always a chance for minor tweaks regarding aesthetics, which translates into new color options, wheels etc.

Still, the overall layout will remain the same, so we don’t believe that the 2024 Volvo XC60 could arrive much earlier than usual.

2024 Volvo XC60 Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Volvo XC60 might bring some smaller updates. However, if we consider that the 2022 model year was updated with lots of things, including new aesthetics, it’s pretty much for sure that the next year’s model will come largely unchanged. We are about to see a familiar design, which still looks very attractive, despite that it’s been around for a pretty long time. It offers smooth and classic aesthetical solutions, which make it age like a fine wine.

In terms of mechanics, the crossover is based on a familiar SPA platform and offers ride quality that’s balanced, but still more about comfort than athleticism. The XC60 is a smooth cruiser but pretty capable powertrain options make it pretty engaging to drive as well. There is a bit of body lean in corners but nothing more than in most other crossovers.

Interior

The cabin design has always been one of the XC60’s strongest points and even today, years after the launch, it still looks fresh and competitive. We like the elegant design approach very much, which offers clean lines in a combination with lots of tech and convenience features. The materials are pretty impressive, and the cabin also feels very airy.

The cabin is also very generous with space. The front seats are massive and with good side support. Moreover, it’s pretty easy to find a good driving position, while outward visibility is also very good. The second row is also pretty spacious and accommodates taller passengers pretty easily.

The cargo area is among the biggest in the segment. In numbers, that would be around 22.4 cubic feet of room behind the back row and 63.3 of the overall cargo volume. That’s more total space than you get from German rivals like BMW X3 and Audi Q5.

Features

We already mentioned that the 2024 Volvo XC60 could get a few novelties in this aspect but the fact is that the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect. It comes standard with goodies like a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch touch screen, a 10-speaker stereo, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, Bluetooth, Google-based navigation, remote keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control and a panoramic moonroof. Also, it can be upgraded with quad-zone climate control, 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system etc.

The same is with driver-assistance features. The current model already comes standard with a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, rain-sensing wipers etc. Among upgrades, you can find goodies like a surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control, head-up display etc.

2024 Volvo XC60 Engines

The powertrain lineup will remain the same, consisting of three options, all electrified in some way. The base 2.0-liter turbo-four comes with a mild-hybrid system and features a max output of 248 horsepower, which is plenty enough to satisfy an average driver. For those who are looking for something pepper, the same engine is available in a variant that includes both turbo and supercharger, as well as a 48-volt hybrid setup. The total output goes up to 295 horsepower.

Finally, there is a plug-in hybrid version, based on the same super- and turbocharged engines. It gets significant help from electric motors, so the max output goes up to 455 horsepower. This setup also offers a pretty respectable all-electric range of around 35 miles.

2024 Volvo XC60 Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2024 Volvo XC60 will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 45.000 dollars.
