The super-popular RX mid-size crossover has just been redesigned and one of the changes we’ve seen is that there is no three-row version in the offer anymore. Instead, the Japanese manufacturer is working on a brand-new model, which will fill the shoes of the previous-generation RX-L. The new crossover will be notably bigger and it should offer a functional third row of seats, which wasn’t the case with the three-row RX. The new model is expected to arrive sometime in the next year, as the 2024 Lexus TX.
At this point, we don’t know much about the new three-row crossover. Still, we may presume it will share a lot of parts with the new RX, both in terms of mechanics and aesthetics. However, various reports suggest that the new TX is about to come with a couple of new, more capable powertrain options than the RX. This particularly refers to the new plug-in hybrid version.
2024 Lexus TX Design
When it comes to the overall design, it is pretty easy to conclude that the new model will be built over the TNGA architecture. Moreover, we have no doubt that the new RX will serve as the basis, especially in terms of the chassis and suspension setup, which should be largely the same. Furthermore, the two models will share a lot of styling elements, whereas the front end should look pretty much the same.
On the other hand, the 2024 Lexus TX will be a notably bigger vehicle. While the new RX measures around 112.2 inches in wheelbase, the TX should offer way more, in order to accommodate passengers in the third row with ease. The company still didn’t come up with numbers but estimated something between 117 and 120 inches between the axles.
Interior
When it comes to interior design, the main quality of the new crossover will be a spacious and functional third row. The latest reports suggest that the 2024 Lexus TX will feature three seats in the last row, which indicates a lot of legroom, which is something you can’t get from any Lexus SUV, including the new LX.
The rest of the cabin shouldn’t bring bigger surprises. We expect to see a couple of spacious and comfortable rows of seats, similar to the RX. This particularly refers to the front seats, which are already some of the best in the class.
The dashboard should look identical, with a new shape that combined conventional aesthetical solutions with lots of tech and convenience features. Such a combination makes the cabin look very elegant and very premium. The materials are nice, and the build quality is excellent.
Naturally, the new SUV will come packed with all kinds of tech features. Base models should come standard with a 9.8-inch infotainment screen, as well as with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trim levels will come with a large 14.0-inch infotainment screen, as well as goodies like navigation, a head-up display, and a Mark Levinson sound system.
The list of standard safety features should also be pretty long. We expect that base models will come with goodies like automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control and many more.
2024 Lexus TX Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, we presume that base models will also be equipped with the new turbo-four engine. The 2024 Lexus TX 350 would come with a 2.4-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 275 horsepower and 312 pound-feet of torque and comes coupled with 8-speed automatic transmission.
The TX 350h with a classic hybrid system won’t be offered. Instead, the only classic hybrid on offer will be the new TX 500h, which will combine electric motors with the turbo-four engine, for a total output of 367 horsepower. Interestingly, this system comes paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, instead of CVT.
The 2024 Lexus TX 450h+ should come with the same plug-in hybrid as the RAV4 Prime, with a total output of 302 horsepower. This system is based on a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated engine and comes in pair with CVT.
Finally, the company prepares another plug-in hybrid version, which will come with the 550h+ moniker. At this point, details are still unavailable but we presume this will be the most powerful powertrain on offer. This system could be based on a turbo-four engine or even something bigger and more capable.
2024 Lexus TX Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Lexus TX will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2023, with a starting price of around 55.000 dollars. Key competitors will be models like Volvo XC90, Acura MDX, Audi Q7 and other luxury crossovers with three rows.
