The 25 years ago, the Blue Oval Company launched the largest SUV ever made, called Excursion. That model came not just with impressive dimensions, but also with an impressively rugged design, based on the Super Duty F-250 pickup truck. The SUV was produced until 2006 when it was discontinued due to a lack of demand and poor fuel economy. However, it became a legend, so big that we’ve been hearing rumors about its comeback for years. This time, rumors sound more likely than before, as they suggest a little bit different 2024 Ford Excursion design approach than before.
If we could trust the latest reports, there is a chance to see a new Excursion, but not based on the F-250. Instead, the old nameplate would be used for an all-electric SUV, so we presume that the new F-150 Lightning would serve as a basis. The 2024 Ford Excursion would still be extra large, but with a completely different powertrain. Rumors suggest we could see the new electrified SUV already in the next year.
2024 Ford Excursion Design
So, the 2024 Ford Excursion would come back, according to these rumors, but with a little bit different design approach. Back in the day, this SUV was based on an F-250 Super Duty pickup truck. This time, things would be a little bit different. The new model would feature an all-electric setup, so we presume it would be based on the F-150 Lightning. So, the chassis would be the same, while some sources even suggest the same wheelbase, which goes around 145 inches in the all-electric pickup. That doesn’t sound impossible at all if we consider that electric cars generally feature longer wheelbases than their counterparts.
Of course, the aesthetics would be shared as well. We presume that the 2024 Ford Excursion would come with the same front-end design. Naturally, the rest of the body would come in a typical SUV layout, with a long wagon-like body that ensures plenty of interior space.
Interior
When it comes to interior design, we expect to see the same dashboard design as in the F-150. That would mean a modern and attractive dashboard, with nice materials, especially in higher trim levels. Of course, we count on all those tech features as well, starting from massive infotainment screens. The F-150 Lightning comes standard with a 12-inch screen, while there is an even bigger, optional 15.5-inch screen. Also, there is a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone integration etc.
Still, the Excursion’s key strength won’t be the interior quality, but rather a super-spacious cabin. All three rows of seats should be very generous with space, able to accommodate adults with ease. The cargo area should offer impressive numbers too.
2024 Ford Excursion Drivetrain
As we’ve just mentioned, most parts will be shared with the all-electric F-150, and that particularly refers to the drivetrain and batteries. So, base models should come with a dual-motor setup in a combination with a 98-kWh battery, which provides a max output of 462 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque. There should be also a version with a 130-kWh battery, which also brings a power increase to 580 horsepower, while the max torque remains the same.
When it comes to max range, we presume that base versions would be good for about 220 miles on a single charge, while the models with a bigger battery should be able to provide around 300 miles of range.
2024 Ford Excursion Release Date and Price
The new 2024 Ford Excursion is still just speculation, especially the all-electric one. Still, there are reports that suggest the revival could happen already in the next year. In that case, we estimate that the base price could go around 85.000 dollars.
