After the last year’s redesign, Ford’s familiar SUV became better in many ways. The new generation offers a more attractive design but also offers notably better ride quality, more tech features, a nicer interior and additional powertrain options. All this clearly indicates that the 2024 Ford Everest, which will represent the second production year of the new generation, should carry on without more important upgrades. However, it looks like the Blue Oval Company prepares some interesting novelties for its SUV that’s sold only in Australia and South East Asia.
Namely, it looks like the company is working on a new, hybrid powertrain, which would join the current lineup that consists of two diesel and one petrol unit. For the Australian market, it looks like we could also see a new package, called Wildtrak. This moniker is already used in Ranger, so we presume that the same or very similar list of exclusive features will be found in the new Everest.
In any case, these updates should affect the models’ arrival time too much, so we presume that the launch will be scheduled for the last quarter of the year.
2024 Ford Everest Novelties
As we’ve just mentioned, there are two key novelties we expect to see in the 2024 Ford Everest. One of them is the powertrain. If we can trust rumors, the Bue Oval Company is working on a hybrid version of the SUV and if we can trust the latest reports, there is a completely new system to be installed, which will aslo be used for the new Ranger. We are pretty sure it will be a plug-in hybrid setup, which would ensure pretty decent autonomy in the EV mode as well. The system will be based on a turbo-four engine and some rumors speculate about the max output that goes over 350 horsepower.
Another interesting novelty that’s expected for the next year is the addition of the Wildtrak model. At this point, it’s still unclear whether this is going to be a trim level or appearance package, but we know what to expect from this moniker because it’s already been used in the Ranger for a while. In that pickup, it brings exclusive styling details, such as exclusive 18-inch grey wheels, upgraded grey grille, grey side mirrors, grey door handles etc.
No Changes for the Rest of the Powertrain Lineup
Other than the hybrid powertrain, we don’t expect changes under the hood. So, the offer should start with the base 2.0-liter inline-four turbodiesel, which features a max output of 154kW(210hp) and 500Nm and comes in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Besides decent performance, this engine also offers pretty good fuel economy, which goes around 8.3 liters per 100km (cca28mpg) in a combined ride.
For those buyers who look for something more capable, there is a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, good for about 186kW(250hp) and 590Nm of torque. Of course, it offers notably better driving dynamics, though it is also notably thirstier, with around 10L/100km (cca23.5mpg) in combined drive.
In certain markets, the Everest is also offered with a petrol engine, with a 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-four that’s good for about 270 horsepower.
2024 Ford Everest Design
The 2024 Ford Everest will represent the second production year of the new generation and therefore, we don’t expect to see changes in terms of design. The overall layout will remain the same, which still rides on a good-old T6 platform, which has been significantly updated for this occasion. Unlike the Ranger, the Everest features a way more refined suspension setup, especially on the rear end, which has a highly positive impact on the ride quality. This SUV is surprisingly smooth and comfortable but, at the same time, it doesn’t sacrifice its off-road potential.
As for the styling, the new Wildtrak version may bring a few exclusive details but the overall look will remain the same. The front end shares most of the aesthetical solutions with Ranger, while the overall shape comes in a typical SUV layout, which hasn’t significantly changed compared to the previous generation.
Interior
On the inside, the recent redesign brought a way more modern design, with nicer aesthetics and much finer materials. The dashboard also includes massive screens, along with other tech and convenience features, so we are pretty sure that no bigger changes will happen for the 2024 Ford Everest.
Base models will continue with two rows of seats and a capacity of five, while the optional third row will be offered. Although not particularly spacious, the third row definitely improves the overall functionality and it is also something that you can find in pretty much every player in this segment, including models like Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Toyota Fortuner.
2024 Ford Everest Release Date
Despite the potential updates, we don’t believe that the 2024 Ford Everest could arrive earlier than usual. We expect to see it in the last quarter of the year. Australian-market models start at around $53.000.
