Audi’s compact crossover is about to receive a full redesign in the next year. Those are the latest report about the 2024 Audi Q5, which has already been spotted on the road a couple of times. The new model is expected to be the last generation of the nameplate with internal combustion engines, so it’s no wonder that most reports suggest mostly evolutionary changes.
This means that the 2024 Audi Q5 will ride on the same but updated MLB platform, with further upgrades in terms of ride quality, interior design etc. The powertrain lineup shouldn’t be much different though there is a chance to see the base version backer up with a mild-hybrid system. Of course, a plug-in hybrid will be on offer as well, while the test model also seems slightly bigger than the outgoing model.
We expect that the 2024 Audi Q5 will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2023.
2024 Audi Q5 Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Audi Q5 is about to receive a full redesign. The new generation will be the last one with internal combustion engines, so we presume that most changes will be evolutionary and subtle. Of course, one of the first things that come to mind is the platform. We expect that the new model will ride on the updated version of the familiar MLB platform, which should bring slight improvements in certain aspects.
One of them is the suspension setup, as the outgoing model feels a little bit inferior compared to arch rivals in terms of ride quality. Namely, the rear suspension uses some pretty old technical solutions, so we presume some improvements could happen in this aspect.
Exterior
Of course, the new generation will also bring new exterior designs. At this point, the test mule still wears complete camouflage, so it’s hard to talk about a design language. Still, we presume that some inspiration could be taken from the e-tron family. On the other hand, the overall shape should change.
Compared to the outgoing model, the new one seems a little bit bigger. It looks wider and lower, while we also expect to see a little bit longer wheelbase, which will bring benefits in terms of the interior space.
Interior
As we’ve just mentioned, the new generation should feature a slightly longer wheelbase, which should reflect in more passenger rooms, particularly in the second row. Still, these improvements shouldn’t be significant, as the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect, accommodating adults in both rows in a pretty nice fashion. The same thing is with the cargo area.
On the other hand, the new dashboard should bring improvements regarding style and quality. We’ve managed to get a look into the test mule’s cabin and one of the first things we’ve noticed is a massive tablet-like touchscreen, designed in a similar way as the one in the updated Golf. There are no physical buttons and knobs for climate controls, so we presume everything will be operated through the touchscreen. The center stack comes with just a couple of physical buttons, such as start/stop control, hazard lights etc. Also, there is the new multi-functional steering wheel, designed in the same way as the one in the e-tron model.
2024 Audi Q5 Engines
As we’ve just mentioned, this will be the last Q5 with internal combustion engines. Most of the current units will carry on, starting from the base 2.0-liter turbo-four, which comes in two output variants, with either 201 or 261 horsepower. This engine should come paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, so we could see some slight power increase, along with slight fuel economy improvement.
The same should happen with the SQ5, which is the most capable version of the crossover. This version uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6, which puts out around 350 horsepower and needs just 4.7 seconds to hit 60mph.
Finally, we count on a plug-in hybrid version. The current model uses a powertrain that combines a turbo-four engine with an electric motor and a 17.9-kWh battery pack, for a total output of 362 horsepower. That system might come with further improvements, or we could see a completely new system. It’s still hard to say which one will prevail.
Finally, the Ingolstadt company plans to carry on with diesel engines in some markets, such as Europe and Australia. This refers to both four- and six-cylinder diesel units.
Currently, four-cylinder engines come with a dual-clutch transmission, while V6 units use an 8-speed automatic gearbox, so we presume that the new generation will continue in the same way.
2024 Audi Q5 Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Audi Q5 will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2023, with a starting price of around 45.000 dollars. The competition will remain the same, mostly in the form of arch-rivals – BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.
