Acura has been pretty busy these days and the reason is that Honda’s luxury division has to catch up with other premium manufacturers in terms of electrification. Today, we know that there are at least two electric crossovers that are coming in the near future. The smaller one will come as the 2024 Acura ADX, according to rumors, and it will be the company’s entry-level model in the EV lineup.
As you probably know, the Japanese manufacturer is still developing its EV technology, which won’t be ready before 2026. Therefore, just like the ZDX, the 2024 Acura ADX will borrow a lot of design and tech solutions from GM, particularly in terms of battery technology, where the American company offers some pretty advanced solutions. On the other hand, the rest of the design will be done by Acura, so we expect to see a design that perfectly suits the brand’s familiar design philosophy.
The latest reports suggest that the new EV is about to arrive sometime in the second half of 2023.
2024 Acura ADX Will Use Ultium Battery Technology
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Acura ADX will borrow some tech solutions from GM and that primarily refers to the battery technology. The new crossover will ride on the BEV3 platform and therefore, it will feature Ultium battery technology. This is GM’s most advanced technology, which supports various battery capacities, between 50 and 200 kW. Furthermore, it brings pretty advanced charging features, so there’s no doubt that the ADX will benefit from it a lot.
At this point, the exact battery capacity is unknown but some sources speculate about 250 miles of range in the base version. On the other hand, higher trim levels will probably feature a little bit bigger battery, which will ensure around 300 miles on a single charge. As we’ve just mentioned, the Ultium technology provides charging speeds that go up to 300 kW, so we have no doubt that DC charging will be pretty quick.
When it comes to the drivetrain, details are still unavailable. However, rumors suggest that the base 2024 Acura ADX will use GM’s familiar 240-hp electric motor, mounted on the front axle. AWD models would be offered too, with the additional electric motor on the rear end, with a total output of 340 horsepower.
2024 Acura ADX Design
This will be Acura’s new all-electric crossover and from what we know so far, it will be an entry-level model, smaller than the ZDX. The exact proportions are still unknown, but most unofficial reports suggest a size that’s similar to the new Honda HR-V. We might see a little bit longer wheelbase, but the overall size should put this crossover somewhere between subcompact and compact segments.
Mechanically, the new model will be based on GM’s BEV3 platform but we have no doubt that the Japanese manufacturer will do a lot of its own, especially in terms of the chassis and suspension setup, which should provide a high level of athleticism. In terms of styling, a lot of inspiration should come from the Precision EV concept, which is the direction where we expect new Acura models to go, at least in terms of aesthetics.
Interior
When it comes to interior design, it is still early to talk about details. The Precision concept shows a hyper-futuristic design approach and we don’t expect much of it to end up in production models. Instead, we expect to see a little bit more conservative design approach, with a more conventional steering wheel, simpler dashboard etc.
In terms of seating configuration, we will see two rows of seats and a capacity for five passengers. The front seats should be massive and spacious, while the second row should be able to accommodate adults pretty easily. A decently-sized cargo area is expected too.
2024 Acura ADX Release Date and Price
Although many see this model as a certain thing, the 2024 Acura ADX is actually still waiting for official confirmation. On the other hand, unofficial reports suggest it could arrive already in the second half of 2023.
