The Japanese manufacturer has already a redesign schedule for the next couple of years and from what we can see, the next generation of the aging full-size SUV will get a complete overhaul in about two years. It will come as 2023 Toyota Sequoia and we count on loads of novelties. This schedule was pretty much expected. The whole body-on-frame lineup will be redesigned in the following years and Tundra is first in the line. After that, it’s time for this one.
At this point, it is hard to talk about more precise details, but we may presume that a big number of parts will be directly borrowed from the truck sibling. This includes almost complete mechanics, as well as some styling details, particularly at the front. The new 2023 Toyota Sequoia is about to bring improvements in various aspects, starting from efficiency, performances, ride quality and much more.
2023 Toyota Sequoia Redesign
Considering that the current generation has been around since 2007, there is no doubt that this redesign will bring significant changes. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. As you may presume, this model will also ride on the new TNGA-F platform, just like the new Tundra. The new architecture will bring significant improvements, starting with notable weight reduction, which will have a positive impact on various aspects of driving experience. Another big thing that is coming is a new suspension setup. This particularly refers to the rear end, where we are about to see either independent or air suspension. This became a segment standard, so anything other than these two things would be a surprise.
Exterior
When it comes to the exterior design, we count on a completely new design. The current model did receive some updates during its way too long production cycle, but the styling is still way outdated. Therefore, we expect a lot from the 2023 Toyota Sequoia. The exact design language is still a mystery but many things will become clear once the new Tundra takes off the camouflage. We presume that new BoF models will use crossovers like RAV4 and Highlander as inspiration, though we are pretty sure that everything will look much bolder and more rugged in this case.
When it comes to size, we don’t expect significant changes. The current model is already one of the biggest models in the class, with more than 120 inches in wheelbase. With such size, interior dimensions will once again be impressive. The overall shape shouldn’t change drastically either, though there is always room for smaller experiments. As we’ve just mentioned, more things will be known once the new Tundra takes of the camouflage.
Interior
The current model’s interior is a kind of a mixed bag. On one side, the amount of space is really impressive. All three rows are very generous in terms of legroom, which the third row also accommodates adults with ease. Moreover, you can also count one of the biggest cargo areas in the class. If the 2023 Toyota Sequoia comes with independent rear suspension, things would be even better in this aspect.
On the other side, interior quality is certainly the weakest point of the current model. It features low-rent materials, while aesthetics are really outdated. Of course, this will change significantly with the upcoming redesign. We count on significant improvements in terms of materials and aesthetics. Moreover, we also count on loads of new tech features, both when it comes to the infotainment system and advanced driver assistance features.
2023 Toyota Sequoia Engine
This aspect of the 2023 Toyota Sequoia will be particularly interesting. The current model comes with a robust and powerful 5.7-liter V8 engine, which is good for about 380 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. It is arguably one of the most reliable engines in the business, but 13 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway definite arent something that can be competitive in today’s market. Therefore, we count on big changes under the hood.
Just like the Tundra, this SUV should also come with that highly anticipated hybrid system, based on a turbo V6 engine. Allegedly, this unit will be good for 450 horsepower, which promises excellent performances. However, we presume that this powertrain will be offered for higher trim levels, while the more basic models will go on pure gasoline. This could also be some turbo six-cylinder unit. In both cases, we count on a new 10-speed automatic gearbox.
2023 Toyota Sequoia Release Date and Price
According to the company’s schedule, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia is about to arrive sometime in 2022. When it comes to the price, the current model starts around 50.000 dollars and we don’t expect a significant increase for the new model. Key competitors will be models like Chevy Tahoe, Ford Expedition, Nissan Armada etc.
Make sure all the windows roll down with the click of a button except for the front windshield of course. Better gas mileage, stronger engine, bigger wheels, quieter interior ride, and better electronics and all around lighting. Softer seats, more usb ports, More storage behind the third row seats and more head room.
My wife and I very much love our 2016 Sequoia but it’s ability to tow RV trailers is seriously lacking in its current design. We can’t afford a truck at this point so finding a trailer that the Sequoia could haul almost proved fruitless. However, we eventually found a shorter 24’ that was within (but pushing) the SUV’s tow and hitch ratings. It would be really, REALLY nice if the next generation Sequoia had the capacity to pull more. With four bodies (2 adults, 2 kids) plus gear, we are limited to about 5225 dry weight which isn’t very much. Being able to pull 7000 or even 9000 dry weight would be incredible.
