If we can trust the latest reports, the legendary SUV is finally about to get redesigned. The current model has been around for nearly two decades and after several updates and facelifts, it is still one of the most popular SUVs in India, mainly because of its excellent off-road capabilities and overall performance. The new generation is about to come in a year or two and it’s good to know that it probably won’t lose any of its legendary toughness. Moreover, it should become even tougher.
In other words, it won’t abandon its original nature. Once again, we will see a fully-framed SUV, equipped with a capable four-wheel-drive system and other off-road hardware. Also, we count on new, more modern engines under the hood, which would make this model quicker and more efficient.
According to the latest reports, the all-new 2023 Mahindra Scorpio should hit the market sometime in the second half of the next year.
2023 Mahindra Scorpio Design
The 2023 Mahindra Scorpio should be an all-new model and the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. From what we know so far, things won’t change radically, as the new model is expected to carry on with a full-framed platform. Still, the architecture will be all-new, with the use of new materials that would make the new model both lighter and stiffer. Furthermore, we count on a new suspension setup, with off-road components, but also with components that have a positive impact on the on-road ride quality.
Exterior
When it comes to the exterior, we expect the new model to get bigger. The current model measures less than 106 inches in wheelbase and 177 inches in total length. Although classified as a mid-size SUV, keep in mind that it was launched two decades ago. That’s why it’s actually smaller than most compact SUVs.
So, we presume that the wheelbase would go up to around 110 inches, roughly. That would make the new model well-balanced – spacious on the inside, short enough for great off-road potential.
Finally, there’s the styling. Given the model’s rugged nature, we presume that designers won’t bother too much with fancy details. Instead, the 2023 Mahindra Scorpio will offer a rather conservative design, which would keep this model look good for a long time.
Interior
Naturally, we would also see a completely new cabin design, starting from a new dashboard design. The current one doesn’t look particularly attractive, which makes sense, considering the model’s age. Therefore, we count on significant improvements with the new generation. First of all, we count on much more modern aesthetics. Along with them, we expect to see the use of much finer materials, as well as better build quality. Finally, we expect to see a full load of the latest tech features, both infotainment goodies and advanced driver aids.
As we already mentioned, the new model will probably feature a notably bigger overall size. Therefore, we also count on more space on the inside. We presume that the company will pack three rows inside this cabin, either in a standard version or as an option. Also, the cargo area should be slightly bigger compared to the current model.
2023 Mahindra Scorpio Engine
The new platform will bring new engines as well. We presume that the new model will use the same units as the recently introduced all-new Mahindra Thar. In other words, we count on a new 2.2-liter turbodiesel, which comes in a few variants, with the most powerful version good for about 160 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque.
A petrol version is also expected and we count on a new 2.0-liter turbo-four. Just like the diesel, it also comes in a few output variants, where the most capable version puts out around 190 horsepower and 380 Nm of the max torque.
Both engines should be offered with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. Of course, a four-wheel drive will be available too and if we can trust the latest reports, the company works on a completely new system. Furthermore, we would like to see some serious off-road hardware, such as a two-speed transfer case, locking differential, hill descent control etc.

The company is still quiet about the new model. On the other hand, unofficial reports suggest the new model could arrive already in the second half of the next year.
