The current generation of Land Rover’s three-row SUV has been around since 2017 and the company decided to spice up things a little bit and bring some novelties. No, there is no mid-cycle refresh, but rather a new version, called Metropolitan Edition. It brings a lot of exclusive details, particularly in terms of styling. On the other hand, the rest of the lineup continues in the same way.
Therefore, even though there are some interesting novelties, the 2023 Land Rover Discovery continues in the same way. This SUV has a lot of great things to offer, starting from excellent off-road performance and comfortable on-road ride. Furthermore, we like its well-appointed interior, while the list of standard and available equipment is pretty generous. On the other hand, the biggest complaints go to the tight third row of seats, along with the small cargo space behind that row.
2023 Land Rover Discovery Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the biggest novelty for the 2023 Land Rover Discovery is the introduction of the new Metropolitan Edition. This version comes with lots of exclusive details. First of all, you will notice the exterior upgrades, such as unique 22-inch wheels, a unique grille, special emblems, and silver bumper inserts. Also, there are some interior upgrades as well but will talk more about that in the next section.
The rest of the lineup continues in the same way, particularly in terms of mechanics. Despite the weight-saving aluminum body and chassis, the level of athleticism isn’t particularly high. On the other hand, the ride is smooth and comfortable, though Discovery’s key strength is off-road performance. That’s no wonder considering that all models come standard with the adjustable suspension, which can raise the ground clearance to 11 inches. Additionally, you can opt for a lot of useful hardware such as a locking differential, two-speed transfer case and Terrain Response 2 system, which monitors conditions and optimizes the suspension setup and traction.
Interior
On the inside, the biggest novelties come with the new Metropolitan Edition. There is a new Titanium Mesh trim on the dashboard and door panels, while heated seats in all three rows are also part of the standard equipment in this version.
The rest of the cabin continues in the same way. This SUV features a well-appointed interior, which great build quality and a lot of attention to detail. The materials are very fine, while we also like the center stack design, which combines tech features with pretty elegant aesthetics.
The first and second-row passenger space is great, while the third row is best to be left for kids. Also, the cargo space behind the third row is just 9 cubic feet. On the other hand, you may count on 45 cubic feet behind the second and 75 cubic feet behind the first row, which is excellent for the class.
Features
With this SUV, you may count on a pretty long list of standard equipment. All models come standard with goodies like an 11.4-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, HD Radio, satellite radio, two USB ports, wireless device charging, a 12-speaker Meridian stereo, a dual-pane panoramic roof, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, tri-zone automatic climate control, a universal garage door opener, and proximity keyless entry.
Among available features, you can find goodies like ambient interior lighting, a center console refrigerator compartment, quad-zone automatic climate control, the Activity Key, 14-speaker Meridian audio system, Wi-Fi hotspot, etc.
When it comes to safety, all models come standard with goodies like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, driver attention monitoring, parking sensors, surround-view camera, traffic-sign recognition, rain-sensing windshield wipers and many more.
2023 Land Rover Discovery Engines
There are two engines available in the 2023 Land Rover Discovery. Base models feature a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. That is plenty enough for good driving dynamics. If you’re up for something more capable, you can opt for the 3.0-liter inline-six. This one is good for about 355 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.
Both engines come coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which is smooth and refined. However, both engines are quite thirsty. The base turbo-four returns around 18 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The inline-six offers pretty similar ratings, though it’s slightly better on the highway. In both cases, fuel economy is low for the class.
On the other hand, the max towing capacity goes up to 8.200 pounds, which is impressive for a mid-size SUV.
2023 Land Rover Discovery Pricing
The 2023 Land Rover Discovery starts slightly under 60.000 dollars, while the new Metropolitan Edition is available at around 79.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Audi Q7, BMW X5 etc.
