The current generation of Jeep’s compact crossover has been around since 2016 but after the last year’s refresh, we believe it has a few more years before it gets a complete redesign. The recent refresh brought an updated styling, new interior design and more features, so we could say that the Compass is still quite competitive, even though most rivals are significantly younger. Therefore, we don’t expect to see bigger updates for the next year.
The 2023 Jeep Compass will continue to offer familiar design characteristics. This SUV looks very nice from the inside and comes with pretty intuitive infotainment features. Still, its strongest point is great off-road performance, something you won’t get from almost any other model in the class. On the other hand, the biggest complaints go to things like underpowered powertrain, small cargo area etc.
Considering that no bigger changes are expected, we believe that the 2023 Jeep Compass will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2023 Jeep Compass Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the last year’s model received a mid-cycle refresh. That update brought a lot of novelties, including some notable styling changes, such as a new grille, new bumpers, wheels etc. The SUV looks pretty attractive but on the other hand, not many things changed in terms of mechanics. As a result, the handling isn’t impressive and most rivals feel more fun to drive.
What most rivals don’t offer is excellent off-road performance. All versions can be configured with an all-wheel drive and Selec-Terrain management system, which offers Auto, Snow, Sand, and Mud modes. Also, there is the Trailhawk model, which comes with some pretty serious pieces of off-road hardware, including Jeep’s Active Drive Low four-wheel-drive system, hill descent control, a Rock traction setting, an off-road suspension, additional skid plates, and two tow hooks.
Interior
The cabin was significantly updated last year and now looks really great. We like the new dashboard design, which utilizes finer materials and comes with way more attractive aesthetics. Also, there are new tech features, which make this cabin look very modern and upscale.
The front seats are massive and supportive, with plenty of space, even for taller passengers. The driving position is good and provides good visibility, along with good ergonomics. Still, the roof pillars are a little bit thicker than you would expect, which compromises visibility for a bit. The second-row seats are also spacious and comfortable, and adults may enjoy long journeys as well.
On the other hand, the cargo area would use more space. It offers 27.2 cubic feet of room behind the back row and 59.8 cubic feet behind the front row, which is significantly less than you get class-leaders like Toyota RAV4 or Subaru Forester.
Features
We don’t believe that the next year’s model could bring bigger changes. Most of the things should remain the same as in the current model, which comes standard with goodies like remote keyless entry, an 8.4-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, three USB ports, satellite radio, and voice recognition. Additionally, there are optional features like a 7-inch or 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8.4-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, three USB ports, satellite radio, voice recognition, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a panoramic sunroof.
In terms of safety, the current model comes standard with goodies like a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert etc. The list of available safety features includes adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, park assist, surround-view camera, traffic-sing recognition, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic high beams etc.
2023 Jeep Compass Engine
The 2023 Jeep Compass will continue with a single engine option in the offer. That’s a good-old 2.4-liter inline-four, which features a max output of 180 horsepower. You may presume that the Compass isn’t particularly fast, but it gets the job done. Base models come with front-wheel drive and in that case, the engine comes paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, models with all-wheel drive use a 9-speed automatic transmission.
The fuel economy isn’t great. Base models with front-wheel drive return around 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg, which is below average for a compact SUV. Of course, models with all-wheel drive are even thirstier.
2023 Jeep Compass Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 Jeep Compass will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 27.000 dollars.
