BMW’s flagship SUV gets a mid-cycle refresh. After a couple of years of production, the management of the Bavarian company decided that it was time for updates. Moreover, they decided to do a pretty comprehensive update, which includes changes and novelties in so many aspects. Not only that the exterior been updated with more prominent styling, but the cabin also comes with lots of novelties, particularly in terms of new screens, a new infotainment system, and other tech features. Finally, there is the matter of powertrain, as each version gets an upgrade, either in terms of power or in terms of mild-hybrid setup.
Despite all the novelties, the overall layout somehow remains the same. You may count on the same overall design, which provides a pretty similar driving experience. This SUV is very comfortable and comes with some pretty capable engine options on the offer. We also like the cabin design very much, particularly in terms of quality. On the other hand, the main drawbacks remain the same – this SUV offers less space in the third row than rivals, while the same can be said for the cargo area.
We expect to see the 2023 BMW X7 on sale this summer.
2023 BMW X7 Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 BMW X7 Design receives a mid-cycle refresh. Of course, some of the most notable changes are those regarding styling. The new model comes with a new exterior design and changes are particularly prominent at the front. It comes with the new front face, which utilizes a new headlights design, along with a more prominent grille and more aggressive front bumper. The rear end comes with a couple of updates too. Also, for the first time, the X7 will be available with massive 23-inch wheels.
On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle remains the same. The 2023 BMW X7 Design will offer the same driving experience, which is a little bit different from what we usually expect for a BMW. Instead of athleticism, this SUV rather puts focus on comfort. The suspension setup is super soft, and the ride is incredibly smooth.
Interior
Big novelties are coming on the inside as well. This particularly refers to the dashboard design, which now comes with a couple of completely new, massive screens. One of them is reserved for the instrument cluster, while the other one comes in a combination with the latest version of BMW’s infotainment system.
A few more modifications can be noticed on the dashboard, while the rest of the cabin remains largely the same. That’s not an issue at all, considering that this SUV has always been characterized by a stylish cabin, with the excellent build quality and really nice materials. We also like the sound insulation very much.
The same is for the passenger space, which remains the same. The front seats and spacious, massive and supportive, while the driving position is excellent. Things aren’t much different in the second row either, as there is plenty of passenger room. On the other hand, the third row, although spacious, is a little bit less generous compared to the third rows found in Mercedes-Benz GLS or Cadillac Escalade.
The cargo area offers around 12.8 cubic feet behind the third row, 48.6 cubic feet behind the second row and 90.4 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. While that’s plenty of space, most rivals are way more generous.
2023 BMW X7 Engines
You may expect pretty big changes under the hood as well. Each powertrain comes with some kind of update. For example, the base 3.0-liter inline-six comes with a significant power boost. Instead of 335 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque, it now puts out 375 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque, which is an increase that should have a pretty big impact on the overall performance.
On the other hand, the M50i has been renamed M60i. Even though it comes with the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, as well as with the same max output (523 horsepower), it now comes coupled with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, which should provide higher mpg ratings.
Finally, there is the Alpina XB7 model, which also gets a boost of 18 horses. The max output now goes up to 630 horsepower.
All three engines come in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission.
