The popular three-row luxury SUV has just been redesigned and the 2023 Acura MDX will represent the second production year of the generation. That’s why we don’t expect to see significant changes. Most of the things should remain the same as in the 2022 model, which has brought significant improvements in various aspects, starting from the ride quality, interior quality etc. Still, there’s always a chance to see minor updates such as new color options and similar things.
On the other hand, rumors suggest electrification for the next year. As the initial model was introduced with two gasoline-powered versions, the 2023 Acura MDX should bring a hybrid version. This time, it looks like Acura will offer a plug-in hybrid setup if we can trust rumors. However, the officials are still quiet on this matter.
Whether the next year’s model arrives with a new hybrid powertrain or not, we don’t believe it will come any earlier than usual.
2023 Acura MDX Design
When it comes to the overall design, the 2023 Acura MDX will continue in the same way. The 2022 model came completely redesigned and that redesign has brought all kinds of changes and improvements. First of all, there is a new styling, which looks even better than before. Also, the new model rides on a completely new chassis, which has brought notable improvements regarding ride quality. The handling is great, while the steering is very precise. All this makes the MDX more athletic than most rivals.
The new generation is also bigger than before. It has gained 2.8 inches in the wheelbase, which has a highly positive effect on the interior space (we will get on that in a minute). All in all, it’s hard to expect any notable change for the next year, it’s always possible to see things like new color options, or even a new visual package.
Interior
Bigger interior changes shouldn’t occur either. Simply, the new cabin looks really nice and we expect no changes before the next redesign. The cabin is well-built and we also like the materials. Another thing that many buyers will like is the fact that many controls have remained physical. Still, the infotainment system isn’t the most intuitive around.
Thanks to the longer wheelbase, the new generation offers more space than before. Three rows of seats are part of the standard configurations and we can say that even the third one offers a decent amount of space. Of course, things are much better in the first two rows, which accommodate adults with ease. The front seats are massive and supportive, while the driving position is excellent, whether it’s about ergonomics or visibility.
The cargo area offers around 16.3 cubic feet of room behind the third-row seats, 39.1 cubic feet with the third-row seats folded down, and 71.4 cubic feet in total. Those are quite decent numbers for the segment.
Features
Once again, we are talking about the second production year, so it’s hard to believe that more important changes could happen regarding the standard and available equipment. For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like a 12.3-inch display, a touchpad controller, a nine-speaker stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, USB ports, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless device charging, Amazon Alexa, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additionally, you can upgrade your MDX with goodies like tri-zone climate control, a moonroof, navigation, additional USB ports, and a 12-, 16-, or 25-speaker ELS audio system.
When it comes to safety features, the current model comes standard with a rearview camera, driver drowsiness monitoring, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, road departure mitigation, blind spot monitoring, traffic jam assist, rear cross traffic alert, and traffic sign recognition. Additionally, you can get upgrades like a head-up display, front and rear parking sensors, and a surround-view parking camera system.
2023 Acura MDX Engines
Base models will continue with a well-known, super-smooth 3.5-liter V6, which features a max output of 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. It offers solid performances that should satisfy most drivers. For those who look for more, there is the revived Type S model, which comes with a 3.0-liter turbo V6, with a total output of 355 horsepower. Both engines come in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
For the next year, we can hear rumors about the hybrid version. The previous generation featured a 321-hp system based on a V6 engine. This time, we would probably see a plug-in hybrid setup, based on a turbo-four engine.
2023 Acura MDX Release Date and Price
The 2023 Acura MDX should arrive sometime in the second half of 2022, with a starting price of around 48.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like BMW X5, Volvo XC90 etc.
