The famous German sports car manufacturer is turning a new page in its history, as we are seeing massive electrification these days. The Taycan has already been around for a while and we are now waiting for the brand’s first electric crossover. As you may presume, that will be the 2022 Porsche Macan EV, the popular compact crossover which has been marking some pretty impressive sales numbers in recent years.
At this point, we don’t know too much about the specifics but we know how the new model will look like and that it will get a completely new platform and features a quite different design compared to the current model. We expect to see it sometime in the next year and more details are expected to come in the near future.
2022 Porsche Macan EV Gets New Platform
Electrification isn’t a new thing in the Volkswagen Group. There is already a nice number of mainstream vehicles, while many of them are in development. All of them use the company’s new MEB platform, designed for electric vehicles on purpose. However, we won’t see it under the skin of the new 2022 Porsche Macan EV. Instead, we will see another platform, reserved for premium vehicles only.
That’s pretty much expected, considering that VW practices the same policy with the conventional vehicles as well. There, we have an MQB platform for mainstream vehicles, while the MLB architecture is reserved for premium vehicles, which are usually bigger and feature longitudinally mounted engines. The new architecture will be called PPE.
2022 Porsche Macan EV Design
When it comes to the exterior design, we know a lot of things, thanks to Porsche itself. The German company accidentally show a photo, where the new 2022 Porsche Macan EV can be seen pretty clear. Add to this the number of spy shots on the road and it’s easy to get a picture of the new model. Compared to the current model, it will feature sleeker headlights, as well as a slightly smoother grille. Also, the testing model clearly shows a bit of a sloping roof, which will provide that coupe-like appearance.
Simply, the company wants to make a certain distance between the new 2022 Porsche Macan EV and the current model, considering that the gasoline-powered version is about to remain in production for a few more years. This practically means that both models will be available during a certain period.
Interior
When it comes to interior design, no details are currently available. This aspect is still a complete mystery, but we may presume that some inspiration will come from the Taycan. In any case, we have no doubt that Porsche will stick with its familiar interior design approach, which includes a clean simplistic layout, which will be complemented with all kinds of advanced tech features for this occasion.
When it comes to seating configuration, we believe that bot four- and five-seater versions will be offers. The amount of passenger space should be similar to the standard internal-combustion model. The same thing goes for the cargo area.
2022 Porsche Macan EV Drivetrain
At this point, we don’t know much about the drivetrain and performances. Porsche still keeps most things a secret. The only thing we currently know for sure is that it will feature an 800-volt system capable of 350-kW charging. Naturally, we count on various configurations in terms of power and range. Some versions should be able to make more than 300 miles on a single charge.
2022 Porsche Macan EV Release Date and Price
According to the latest reports, the 2022 Porsche Macan EV will come sometime in the next year. More details about the launch date and price should come soon.
