All-New 2022 Nissan Qashqai Is On The Way

The popular crossover is about to receive a complete redesign. Although it was planned for this year, the Coronavirus outbreak has moved its launch for the spring, so the new model will rather come as the 2022 Nissan Qashqai. At this point, the new generation still wears camouflage but we already know a lot of details about it. This refers both to mechanics and aesthetics.

The new model won’t be much bigger than the current one. Also, it will continue with a familiar, but upgraded CMF architecture. The latest reports suggest that Nissan will focus on gasoline engines, though we won’t be surprised if we see a couple of oil-burners in the offer as well. Electrification is also possible. Of course, this redesign will bring a completely new styling, while we are eagerly waiting to see how the new cabin will look like. As we already mentioned, the new 2022 Nissan Qashqai should debut next spring.

2022 Nissan Qashqai Redesign

This redesign is about to bring a lot of novelties, as Nissan wants to retain its excellent position in Europe. Still, the Japanese manufacturer won’t experiment too much and the new model will continue to ride on a familiar CMF architecture. Of course, we will see several improvements, which will provide better performances, ride quality etc.

When it comes to size, we don’t expect significant changes. The overall proportions, as well as the wheelbase, should remain pretty much the same, as the current model already walks on a fine line between subcompact and compact segment. In numbers, the current model measures around 104.2 inches in wheelbase and it is 172 inches long.

Styling

Of course, one of the things that draw most attention is the exterior design. While the overall size is about to remain the same, we count on a completely new styling. The company did a pretty amazing job, so the outgoing model still looks petty attractive, despite the age. Therefore, we expect no radical changes in the new model.

As we already mentioned, the new model still wears camouflage, so it’s early to talk about details. However, we can clearly see that the overall shape will remain pretty similar. The front face should adopt the brand’s new design language, so we count on a lot of resemblance with the bigger Rogue. The rear end should look quite similar to the current model, though we’ve noticed different taillights, which feature different shape and spread to the tailgate.

Interior

This aspect of the 2022 Nissan Qashqai seems particularly interesting. The outgoing model features a pretty nice cabin design, which still looks fresh. Still, the new model should bring significant improvements. We count on the same approach as we saw in the new Rogue, which means finer materials and a lot of futuristic styling details. Of course, this also includes things like a new tablet-like touchscreen, digital instrument cluster and a new, fancy-looking gear shifter. Furthermore, paddle shifters should be part of standard equipment in models with automatic transmission.

In terms of interior space, we don’t expect significant changes, though the new model could improve for a bit in terms of the second-row legroom. The same thing goes for the cargo area.

2022 Nissan Qashqai Engines

When it comes to the powertrain, we have no doubt that the Japanese manufacturer will put the focus on a gasoline engine. More precisely, we count on a new 1.3-liter turbocharged engine, which debuted a few years ago in the current generation. We don’t expect bigger changes in terms of the output, so base versions should be good for about 140 horsepower. A more powerful version of this engine is good for about 160 horsepower. Both variants will probably come standard with a manual gearbox, while the more powerful version will be available with automatic transmission as well.

When it comes to diesel engines, we are still waiting to hear something from the officials. At this point, it’s hard to say whether oil-burners will be in the offer or not. If they come, we don’t expect bigger changes compared to the current generation, which comes with 1.5- and 1.7-liter dCi units, with 115 and 150 horsepower, respectively.

Finally, we should see some form of electrification. However, we don’t expect that these variants will be ready for the initial launch.

2022 Nissan Qashqai Release Date and Price

The 2022 Nissan Qashqai should hit the market next spring. The current model starts around 20.000 euros and we don’t expect to see a significant increase after this redesign. Some of the key competitors are models like Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Ford Kuga etc.
