Nearly 65 years ago, two worlds collided and as a result of that collision, we saw a model called Ford Ranchero. Soon after, it became a legend, even though its design combined two uncombinable body styles, a truck and a coupe. The original model was introduced way back in the ’50s and it was in production until 1979. These days, we are hearing reports that suggest the comeback of this legendary nameplate. Allegedly, the new model would come as the 2022 Ford Ranchero.
At this point, the officials are still quiet about the new Ranchero. Still, if we consider that bringing back familiar nameplates is pretty popular these days, especially in developing markets, this makes perfect sense. So, it’s not hard to conclude that the new 2022 Ford Ranchero would probably be offered in parts of the world like South America, where small commercial vehicles are very popular.
2022 Ford Ranchero Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the new model probably won’t have too many things in common with the original Ranchero. While the initial models belonged to the muscle car era, the 2022 Ford Ranchero would rather be a small and efficient vehicle. The only thing in common would be a cargo bed that is attached to the passenger car. However, we probably won’t see a classic coupe/ute design. Instead of being base on a Mustang, the new Ranchero would rather be compact and economical.
This leads us to the platform. Unlike some previous commercial vehicles in South America, this one probably won’t be based on Fiesta. Instead, it would probably share most parts with a slightly bigger Focus.
Styling
The two models would share mechanics. We would see the same chassis and engine but we are pretty sure that the 2022 Ford Ranchero wouldn’t look like a Focus with an attached cargo bed. Instead, it would probably have its own identity, a design that would probably resemble Ford’s pickup truck lineup, which includes models like F-150 and Ranger.
Such a design approach would make this model look more rugged and bolder, compared to the sleek and pretty rounded Focus. Still, we would see a typical pickup layout, with a single row of seats and a decently-sized cargo bed.
Interior
While the exterior design probably won’t have too many things in common with the popular compact hatchback, the inside would probably be a completely opposite story. We would expect to see the same or very similar dashboard design, characterized by the good build quality and nice materials.
Of course, things would probably be slightly toned down on this occasion. This would mean more hard plastics and less fine materials and tech features. After all, we are talking about a commercial vehicle, which needs to remain affordable.
2022 Ford Ranchero Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, we count on several options on the offer. One of the possibilities is to see a naturally-aspirated version of a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, which delivers around 125 horsepower. Of course, the turbocharged version of the engine should come as well. This one is available in two output variants, with either 150 or 180 horsepower. On the other side, we doubt that the 250-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four would be offered in the new 2022 Ford Ranchero.
Considering that this will primarily be a commercial vehicle, we presume that a diesel engine would be offered in many parts of the world as well. Both automatic and manual transmissions should be on offer.
2022 Ford Ranchero Release Date and Price
Although we are still waiting to hear something from the officials, many believe that the 2022 Ford Ranchero could come already in the next year. We presume that base models would go around 20.000 dollars.
I love it, is similar of what’s in Australia?
Ford Ranchero is primarily for the South American market.
