Once a capable mid-size SUV, today a small crossover. That’s the story of this nameplate in a few words. The current generation debuted in North America last year. Therefore, we are pretty sure that the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer won’t feature any bigger changes. Of course, smaller updates like new colors and features are always possible, but the overall design will certainly remain the same.
That means you may count on familiar characteristics as well. This small crossover has a lot of good things to offer. We like its spacious cabin, which offers plenty of room both for passengers and cargo. Also, the list of standard equipment is more than decent for the class, while the infotainment system is easy to use. On the other side, we aren’t particularly impressed with the powertrain, while the ride quality could be better as well.
As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer will hit the market sometime late in the year.
2022 Chevy Trailblazer Redesign
This model was originally planned for the Chinese market only. So, it’s no wonder it is one of the first GM models that started to use the VSS platform. What we really like about this model is the look, which offers a dose of funkiness, but generally looks quite mature for the segment. The optional black roof makes it look even better. For the next year, the best we could see would be the addition of new color options. Anything more than that would be a real surprise.
The new platform has opened a lot of new possibilities, including the ability to install small turbocharged engines. However, the overall ride quality isn’t something that can impress. Handling is one of the model’s weakest points. It’s far from bad, but it’s hard to imagine this crossover in any other role than being a daily commuter.
Interior
Once again, it’s hard to believe that the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer could bring any more important novelty. The overall cabin layout will certainly remain the same, which means that you may count on a cabin that is spacious and features decent overall quality.
In terms of the dashboard design, we find it looks very upscale. Also, the materials are really nice, though not exactly on Mazda CX-3 level. One of the things we don’t like is sound insulation. A lot of engine noise is coming inside the cabin.
With nearly 104 inches in wheelbase, this crossover gets pretty close to the compact SUV segment. So, it’s no wonder that there is more space compared to most rivals. The front row is spacious and comfortable, while the back seats can also accommodate adults. The cargo area offers 25.3 cubic feet of cargo space with its rear seats upright and 54.4 cubic feet when you fold them down. That’s above-average for the class.
Features
According to some reports, one of the big changes for the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer could be the deletion of the Performance Package, which includes different drive modes and similar things. Other than that, we believe that most of the things are about to remain the same as in the current model. For reference, the current model comes standard with features like keyless entry, a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, four speakers, Bluetooth, two USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. The number of options is pretty big and some of the highlights are an 8-inch touch screen, HD Radio, satellite radio, two additional USB ports, a six- or seven-speaker stereo, wireless device charging, panoramic sunroof, remote start, power liftgate etc.
When it comes to safety, all models come standard with a rearview camera, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeps assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Additionally, you can pay extra for options like rear parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control.
2022 Chevy Trailblazer Engine
We count on the same engine offer for the next year. The base 2022 Chevy Trailblazer will come with a smaller 1.2-liter turbocharged engine, which puts out 137 horsepower. A slightly bigger 1.3-liter is the upgrade you can get, with a max output of 155 horsepower. In this segment, an 18-horsepower boost makes a big difference but a more important thing is the fact that the base engine uses a CVT gearbox, while the bigger unit comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which offers a better driving experience. Furthermore, the optional engine is also available with all-wheel drive.
When it comes to fuel economy, the base engine returns around 28 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The 1.3-liter engine is even better and returns around 29 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.
2022 Chevy Trailblazer Release Date and Price
Considering that there are no significant changes to come, we believe that the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer won’t arrive before the last quarter of the year. The current model’s price starts slightly under 20.000 dollars and we don’t expect a bigger increase for the next year. Some of the key players in the segment are models like Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona etc.
