The 2022 BMW X4 will represent the fourth production year of the generation and for that occasion, we are about to see a full load of novelties. The Bavarian carmaker will introduce a refreshed version of the crossover, with a focus on styling. Also, this mid-cycle refresh will bring novelties on the inside, as well as under the hood. Models with the inline-six engine will get a mild-hybrid setup.
These novelties will certainly bring a lot of upgrades, but the overall design will remain pretty much the same. Therefore, you may count on familiar design characteristics. This model offers plenty of dynamics. We like its handling, as well as the engines Furthermore, the cabin looks great, while the driving position is excellent. On the other hand, the biggest drawback comes out from the sloping roof design, which compromises cargo space and rear-seat headroom.
We expect that the 2022 BMW X4 will hit the market in the fall.
2022 BMW X4 Redesign
As we already mentioned, the focus of this update will be on the styling. We are about to see a lot of novelties, on both ends of the vehicle. The front end will, of course, come with more new things. The most notable change will be a new grille, which will become bigger, though not oversized like in the case of M3 and M4 models. Furthermore, headlights will get a new shape, while the bumper will look more aggressive.
Changes will come to the rear end as well. From what we can see, there is a new pair of taillights, which look more aggressive than before. Of course, there is also a new rear bumper, which follows styling changes from the front. Finally, we count on typical mid-cycle updates, such as new color options, new wheels designs etc.
Interior
Changes on the inside will come as well. From what we can see, the dashboard will receive few revisions. First of all, the center stack will get a new design, with rearranged physical controls. The climate control unit now sits above the audio system. Of course, there is a new, more prominent infotainment screen.
While we can see a couple of new materials, the overall interior quality remains pretty much the same. That’s a good thing to know, considering that the current model already looks pretty nice from the inside. The materials are really good, as well as the build quality.
The front seats are massive and supportive, while the driving position is excellent. Due to the sloping roof design, the second row isn’t that comfortable. There is plenty of legroom, but the headroom is slightly compromised, so taller passengers may have a problem sitting comfortably. When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on about 18.5 cubic feet behind the second row and 50.5 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.
2022 BMW X4 Engines
Big novelties are coming under the hood, particularly in terms of the M40i model. This version will continue with a well-known 3.0-liter inline-six but with an added 48-V mild-hybrid system. Interestingly, the output will remain the same. So, you may count on about 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to move this crossover from zero to sixty in just 4.4 seconds.
On the other hand, base models will continue in the same way. This means you may count on a good-old 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. With this one, you will need six seconds to get to 60 mph. When it comes to fuel economy, this engine returns around 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. On the other hand, the inline-six should improve numbers compared to the current 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
2022 BMW X4 M
The 2022 BMW X4 M will continue in the pretty much same way. You may count on the same layout, which brings upgrades in various aspects, compared to standard models. First of all, there is a more powerful engine. Although it uses the same inline-six unit, it features significantly more power. The max output goes up to 473 horsepower, while the M Competition version puts out 503 horsepower. The latter can hit 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds.
Besides the engine upgrade, this version comes with all other kinds of upgrades. Of course, there is a full M package, which includes upgrades suspension, brakes and many other components. Naturally, there are also numerous styling details that accentuate its high-performance character.
2022 BMW X4 Release Date and Price
