2022 BMW X3 Facelift: What to Expect

BMW’s compact crossover is one of the most popular models in the segment. Sales numbers are really strong but if we consider that’s the current generation has been around since 2017, it makes perfect sense to see the 2022 BMW X3 with updates. The test mule has been spotted already and we can see that the Bavarian carmaker prepares a typical facelift. Changes will happen mostly in terms of the styling, but novelties could happen in other aspects as well, particularly in terms of the powertrain.

Still, all these changes will be pretty subtle. The overall layout will certainly remain the same, which means that you may count on familiar design characteristics. This crossover will remain easy to drive, with excellent handling and driving dynamics, as well as with a spacious and practical interior. Also, we really like the infotainment system, which is pretty easy to use. Of course, the next year’s model should come with more standard equipment.

We expect to see the 2022 BMW X3 a little bit earlier than usual, but still within the second half of the year.

2022 BMW X3 Facelift

As we already mentioned, the 2022 BMW X3 is about to receive a typical mid-cycle refresh. The focus will be on aesthetics but we don’t expect to see anything radical. Simply, the current model still makes pretty impressive sales numbers, so there is no need for anything more than subtle modifications.

The test mule has been spotted on the road and from what we can see, the camouflage is on both ends of the vehicle. At this front, we expect to see a new bumper, as well as a revised fascia. Also, the grille seems to be a little bit bigger. Finally, we count on slightly revised headlights, which should look a little bit slimmer than before.

The rear end also has a bit of camouflage, as we already mentioned. From what we can see, taillights will probably get a new internal design, while the rear bumper is expected to get a new shape. Furthermore, we could new exhaust. Of course, we also count on typical mid-cycle updates, such as new color options, new wheels etc.

Interior

On the other side, the interior design shouldn’t change too much. The Bavarian carmaker doesn’t practice bigger interior changes during production cycles and more importantly, the current cabin still looks pretty good. We like the simplistic dashboard design, which isn’t too flashy but offers great build quality and really nice materials. We can say the same for the rest of the cabin as well.

Besides good overall quality, this cabin is also very practical and functional. You may count on two very spacious rows of seats, with plenty of room to accommodate five adults. Furthermore, the front seats are really nice and offer solid support. Typically for BMW, the driving position is excellent.

One of the biggest advantages this model has over rivals like Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC is the amount of cargo space. With this crossover, you may count on about 28.7 cubic feet of cargo space with its rear seats upright and 62.7 cubic feet with those seats folded. Those are some of the highest numbers in the class.

Features

Of course, we expect additions in terms of standard equipment as well. Even though the current model is pretty strong in this field, there are a few unforgivable drawbacks, by today’s industry standards. That particularly refers to the smartphone integration, as Android Auto is available only as an option. On the other side, Apple CarPlay is standard.

We expect that this will change in the 2022 BMW X3. The latest reports suggest that both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will become part of the standard equipment.

2022 BMW X3 Engines

A couple of two familiar engines will definitely carry on. We are talking about familiar turbo-four and inline-six engines, which come in a couple of different output variants. Base models use a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 248 horsepower. The inline-six comes in two output variants. The M40i model is good for about 382 horsepower, while the X3 M puts out around 473 horsepower.

Also, we presume that the recently introduced plug-in hybrid version will carry on in the same way. This system combines a turbo-four engine with an electric motor, for a total output of 288 horsepower. The system comes in a combination with a 12-kWh lithium-ion battery, which ensures 17 miles of the all-electric range.

2022 BMW X3 Release Date and Price

We expect to see the 2022 BMW X3 this fall, but the officials are still quiet about a more precise date. When it comes to the price, base versions should go around 44.000 dollars. Of course, the GLC and Q5 are key rivals, but there are also competitors like Volvo XC60, Lexus NX etc.
