The legendary SUV is finally about to become history, after years of prolonging. The Japanese manufacturer has finally decided to end production of this icon, which has been in production for decades. The current generation has been around for full 15 years and it’s time to say goodbye. For this occasion, the Japanese manufacturer won’t’ be signing a swan’s song. We will rather see a typical model year, without any fancy things, such as special editions and similar variants. The 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero will stick to its familiar design characteristics. We expect it will hit the market sometime late in the year.
2021 Mitsubishi Pajero Redesign
There is really no need to talk too much about the design of this legendary SUV. It arrived way back in 2006 and meanwhile, we saw a plethora of updates, including those in 2010, 2012, 2015, 2019 etc. The current model has been dropped from most developed markets, such as North America, Europe, Japan etc. On the other side, its reliability and off-road performances are highly appreciated in parts of the world like the Middle East, China, South America, Australia etc.
There are so many great things about this SUV, despite the age. This particularly refers to the mechanics, as this model still features an impressive setup, which includes one of the most durable independent suspensions in the business. This means you can enjoy both comfort and excellent capabilities, without sacrificing any reliability. When it comes to the styling, the last-year models receive a couple of new styling details, but the overall details is pretty much the same as the one that arrived years ago. Therefore, we don’t expect to see any particular thing for the next year either.
The same thing goes for the interior design, which features pretty good overall quality but lacks a modern feel in terms of aesthetics. Also, the amount of standard equipment isn’t as long as you would expect from a vehicle in this class. Another complaint goes to the fact that the amount of space is smaller compared to most competitors in the class.
2021 Mitsubishi Pajero Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, the next-year 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero will carry on with familiar engines in the offer. Of course, the exact engine offer depends on the markets but in most cases, you can choose between a diesel and gasoline option. When it comes to the diesel, there is a good-old 3.2-liter inline-four turbodiesel, which puts out around 200 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque.
For those who prefer gasoline, there is a well-known 3.8-liter V6, which puts out around 250 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque.
2021 Mitsubishi Pajero Release Date
We expect that the final version of this SUV will hit the market sometime late in the year.
How about the next generation?
At this point, the company is still quiet about the successor. Simply, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer doesn’t have the capacity to develop such a vehicle on its own. However, Mitsubishi is now part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, which is highly beneficial in many ways. That is the reason why many believe that the next-generation Pajero could be co-developed with the Nissan Patrol, another legendary SUV. According to this scenario, the two models would share the platform and most of the mechanics, including the engine lineup. However, both companies are still quiet about this matter, so take this with a big reserve.
