Recently, several reputable automotive magazines announce that fully-redesigned 243-miles Kia Soul EV will be delayed for the US market. Although the electric vehicle was promised in the first half of the year, we won’t see it at least until 2021. Not long ago, Kia Motor America COO stated that “Soul EV will probably be coming to the United States next year.” So, rather than 2020MY we will get 2021 Kia Soul EV.
As for the details of the 2021MY, the engine specs are pretty well hidden. We know a couple of things regarding the design of the EV and the cabin, but most of the info is still unknown. So, without further ado, let’s see what we know about the Soul EV so far.
2021 Kia Soul EV Exterior Redesign, and Interior
The first thing you’ll notice on the forthcoming 2021 Kia Soul EV is that it will have slightly different dimensions. The brand-new model will be larger than before, and it will add 1.2-inches to the wheelbase. As a result, the cabin will be comfortable enough, even though it is a small electric vehicle.
Also, the Soul EV adds 2.23 inches to the overall length. This change will also have an effect on the general comfort in the cabin. The new model will bring different aesthetic, to establish distinctive and recognizable styling even more. Once you see the EV model on the streets, it definitely can’t be mixed up for the regular Kia Soul.
However, the boxy shape is still there, but the front end will be heavily redesigned. Also, the backside will get the more rugged look, with the remodelled taillights. Besides these alterations, there will be a couple of smaller tweaks and adjustments.
All in all, the exterior design will accentuate the all-electric character of the vehicle. As for the cabin, you’ll notice significant changes there as well.
The changes are most visible on the dashboard, which will be completely redesigned and will offer new materials. The infotainment system will include a 7-inch display, 6-speaker Harman Kardon audio, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, satellite radio, etc. Of course, the instrument clusters will be suitably designed in the EV style, as well as the rest of the features.
Engine Specs
We mentioned earlier that Soul Korean automaker didn’t reveal much, regarding the engine of the forthcoming 2021 Kia Soul EV. However, we do know that the battery supply is minimal, and it is facing an electric motor shortage. Maybe the releasing of the Niro EV has something with these problems?
Also, the Hyundai launches Kona Electric recently as well, which might cause all this fuss. Furthermore, one thing is for sure – the brand-new Kia Soul will have an estimated driving range of 243 miles. Also, it will be able to charge faster than similar vehicles in the class.
On top of that, this model will add intuitive tech features and a healthy assortment of standard active safety systems. As we mentioned in the introduction paragraph, the release date is still unknown. However, the company’s spokesman stated that he believes that the EV will be ready for 2021.
