The new generation of Chevy’s oldest nameplate is here. The full-size SUV comes completely redesigned and brings loads of improvements compared to the previous generation. The 2021 Chevy Suburban is bigger, lighter, more efficient and rides better. Despite all these significant improvements, it remains loyal to its basic design characteristics, which means you may count on a classical body-on-frame SUV, which is spacious, capable and very practical.
This redesign brings a completely new platform, which ensures improvements in various aspects. Besides significant mechanical upgrades, the new model also comes with completely new aesthetics. There is a new, more attractive styling, while we can say the same thing for the dashboard too. The new cabin looks way better than before, but it is also more practical, as it offers significantly more cargo space compared to the previous generation. Novelties can be found under the hood as well, considering that the new version will be offered in a diesel variant as well.
2021 Chevy Suburban Redesign
As we’ve already mentioned, the new 2021 Chevy Suburban comes completely redesigned and this overhaul brings significant improvements in various aspects. First of all, there is a new platform, called T1. It is the same one that undeprints the current generation of Silverado. Among the many improvements this platform brings, we should definitely mention weight savings, which measure around 200/300 pounds, depending on the version you choose. Also, the new generation features significantly longer wheelbase, even though the overall length is rather similar.
Of course, there is also a completely new chassis setup, which includes a new suspension as well. Things are particularly interesting at the rear end, where this SUV finally gets an independent rear suspension. This feature has a highly positive impact on comfort and overall driving experience and it definitely makes a difference compared to the previous generation.
Exterior
Obviously, this redesign brings a completely new exterior design. The first thing you’ll notice is a new styling. Compared to the previous generation, the most obvious differences are at the front, where you can easily notice the same face as on the new Silverado. The design language is practically the same and differences are minimal. On the other side, the overall shape remains pretty similar and continues in a typical SUV form.
The overall shape might look very similar, but there are notable changes in terms of dimensions. While the 2021 Chevy Suburban gets 1.3 inches in the overall length, the most obvious difference is in the wheelbase, which now measures 134.1 inches. That’s 4.1 inches more compared to the previous generation. The new model is also higher and wider, changes aren’t that drastical in these aspects.
Interior
The previous generation has often been criticized for interior quality, which wasn’t particularly great. However, things are completely different now, as the 2021 Chevy Suburban comes with a new dashboard, which looks way more attractive than before. Moreover, it also utilizes loads of hi-quality materials, so the overall impression is that the new cabin looks far better than before. New tech goodies just make everything look even more opulent.
The new interior isn’t just better-looking. It is also characterized by significant improvements in terms of practicality and functionality. While the first two rows are quite similar to the previous generation, the third one gains 2.2 inches in legroom. More importantly, the cargo area is significantly bigger than before. Thanks to the longer wheelbase and, more importantly, independent rear suspension, there are no 41.1 cubic feet behind the third row. The numbers look far more impressive when you fold down the second row of seats. In that case, the cargo capacity goes up to nearly 93 cubic feet. Finally, the overall cargo volume goes all-away up to 144.7 cubic feet. These are class-leading numbers by a pretty big margin.
2021 Chevy Suburban Engines
Big novelties are coming under the hood as well, as the 2021 Chevy Suburban will be available with a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, which puts out around 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. On the other side, the two familiar V8 gasoline units will carry on in the same way. Base models will carry one with a 5.3-liter engine that puts out around 355 horses and 383 lb-ft of torque. With the bigger 6.2-liter engine, you may count on about 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
As you can see, the numbers have remained the same as for the previous generation. However, there is a new 10-speed automatic transmission, which works way better than the previous 6-speed unit.
2021 Chevy Suburban Release Date and Price
The 2021 Chevy Suburban is about to hit the market pretty soon and the base price will go around 53.000 dollars. Of course, Ford Expedition Max will be the key competitor. Of course, we should also mention the good-old Toyota Sequoia, as well as the upcoming facelifted Nissan Armada.
